FINNISH GOSHAWK
Harrigoss
1lb 11.3oz male taking a 4-1/2 lb rabbit in a great head lock.
Avit:- 1lb 11.7 oz late in season.
Immature male Goss
(Accipiter gentilis)
In my opinion the goshawk is one of the best alround hunting bird of prey, especially the male goshawk.
They are faster than the harris hawk in flight and less hastle
to train.
The goshawk needs very little manning. The manning process is very easy. They need to be placed on a pull-perch
every day in full veiw of everything going on around it .
If you are flying your goshawk over a dog then allow your dog to run freely around the bird whilst on the pull-perch. This will help your goshawk to get used to having the dog around.
Although the goshawks main quary is feather, they are fantastic rabbit hawks once they are well wedded, you will find that you have to hold your goshawk back, as they are to fast for rabbit and you won't get much of a flight.
The goshawk will follow on if you wish it to, this is great when hunting pheasant through woods, but bolted rabbit through woodland makes great sport and fantastic flights.
Not only their ability and agility make them great birds the stamina in the hunt is fantastic to watch.
All our breeding stock has come from one of the countries top breeders, and we have endeavoured to continue that same line of quality, and can guarantee that all young are fully parent reared, straight from the nest - nice solid heavy birds!
